How did Blue Voyage start?
|
|
Blue Voyage has an interesting story which began in 1928, when Cevat Sakir Kabaagacli, also called Fisherman of Halicarnassos, moved to Bodrum.
In 1925, the historian, translator and novel writer Cevat Sakir Kabaagacli was sent to exile to Bodrum because of an article he wrote in the magazine Resmi Hafta. For this article he was sentenced to 3 years arrest in the tower of Bodrum.
As the court of justice found out that the days in Bodrum were a reward rather than a punishment to Cevat Sakir and they ordered him to come back to Istanbul in order to complete the rest of his punishment.
Cevat Sakir Kabaagacli loved Bodrum and its people so much that he settled in Bodrum after completing the second half of his sentence in Istanbul. Fisherman of Halicarnassos, Cevat Sakir Kabaagacli, lived in Bodrum for 25 years and worked at various different jobs including commercial fishing.
Cevat Sakir and his friends often made sailing trips to the Gulf of Gokova taking only water, cheese, bread, tobacco and raki, the most popular alcoholic drink in Turkey, with them. There was no newspaper, no radio but only this incredible world of peace and tranquillity. They didn’t want any access to the outside world. These trips would serve as the inspiration for Blue Voyage. Today, during Blue Voyage , your gulet offers all the comfort of a hotel.
